Thankful In All Things - Cindy Sproles
I awoke in the wee hours of the morning, dressed, then walked to the prayer garden. The morning mist hung heavy; my feet hidden from sight. I didn’t need to see, I remembered the path. I’d walked it a lot lately—needed this time alone. And again, as odd as it seemed, loneliness weighed heavy.
I crossed the foot bridge and trudged the incline, my chest heaving. Memories of past times flooded my soul. For a moment there was an incredible sense of loss and the conflict of, yet a greater sense of joy.
Scaling the steep rock, slick with the early morning dew, I climbed to the place where my friend and I often perch and talk, seek God. The forest was dense with fog and the only sound, the creek. I lifted my face toward the rays of sunlight that peeked through the trees. Lord, I am thankful. Thankful that you hold me nestled against you. Thankful that you protect me even when I can’t see the covering. Thankful that You love me, just because.
As I sat on the boulder and watched the mist lift from the floor of the forest, I took in the morning. I’m ashamed of the times I forget, the times I ignore the blessings. Those times I whine and feel shunned. God provides for me every day, even when I don’t deserve His provision.
He comes to me when I cry out to Him and He delivers me in ways that I cannot always understand.
As you enjoy your families this Thanksgiving Day, as you say your prayers thanking God for the bounty of food, remember the deep- seated love that God offers to you every day. Stop, lift your hands toward the heavens and truly thank Him. He is worthy of your praise.
May your Thanksgiving be wonderful and your hearts overflow with abundant love.
